SUMMER SEASON PROGRAM:
Summer 2018 fee: $150
Registration closes midnight June 21!

The MLL Summer Competitive Baseball program builds on the Spring Program, providing an opportunity to play into July and August. The program is open to all of our Registered Spring Players.

Your child must participate in their designated age division, as Little League International rules are very strict for the summer competitive season for most divisions. If there are more players interested than can be accommodated in the MLL, we will refer players to other leagues that have space(s) available. Every effort will be made to place all players who wish to play summer ball on a team. While we try to include as many players as possible, it maybe necessary to release players after the tryouts. Usually this will be due to numbers, for example 17 registrants which is too many for one team but not enough for two.The MLL Executive reserves the right to cap team rosters at the numbers they see fit based on the level of play and the number of registered players.

In the summer divisions, MLL plays in the Ottawa Summer Interlock league with teams from other Ottawa area Little Leagues in District 6 (Carleton Russell, Prescott Russell, South Ottawa, Orleans) and District 2 (Ottawa West, East Nepean, Kanata).

Each age division will typically form 1 or 2 summer teams, however if there is enough interest we will attempt to field enough teams to meet the interest. There are no set nights for summer ball however games are held during the week with occasional weekend games when necessary due to field availability or rescheduled games (rain-outs).

Registration (and full payment) is required PRIOR to tryout sessions. Players cannot register at the tryout sessions.

Refunds will be available to players who for whatever reason decide to withdraw from summer play prior to or during the tryout process, as follows:
- Should a player register and then NOT attend the tryouts, there will be a $35.00 processing fee taken from the registration fee. The remainder will be refunded. MLL is responsible for paying transaction fees for our registration system.
- Should a player register, attend tryouts and then decide to NOT play on the team they are placed on, there will be a 50% processing fee taken from the registration fee. The remainder will be refunded. MLL is responsible for paying transaction fees for our registration system, and also have deposits placedon our apparel program.
- Should a player register, attend the tryouts and not be placed on a team. MLL will refund this player in the FULL amount of the registration fee. MLL will absorb the transaction fees for this type of situation(s).

FEES
In general, fees cover summer play in the interlock schedule and a set amount towards tournament fees. Players cannot register at the tryout sessions. Full payment must be completed PRIOR to tryout sessions on the MLL website.

For refunds, see our refund policies above.

All Summer Players will be loaned a summer jersey (that will be given back at the end of the season-deposit required). All players will be expected to use plain grey ball pants (at the player’s expense).

TRYOUTS
Tryouts for the Summer teams are on (June 23rd) for Minor and Major. All Coaches that are interested in being selected to coach the summer program will be asked to attend and be available for ranking players and help on the field running drills etc… A RAINOUT DATE WOULD BE THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND (June 30th).

For Coaches interested in the Summer Program: once players are evaluated and placed on teams, the executive will discuss and select the coaching staff for each level. The MLL Executive reserves the right to evaluate or interview all interested candidates and the MLL expects that the decisions made regarding Coach selections are respected and supported.

Summer Teams
Teams are selected after a tryout process to be held in June. Players on these team(s) need to be available and committed to many practices in preparation for Summer D2 play. Junior and Senior teams are entered into district competition and are expected to be available for all district, provincial and national games.

In order to be eligible for selection to a Summer team, players must have played in 60% or more of the regular season scheduled games in that same division of play (not including playoffs). They must also meet residency requirements. If you have any questions about this, please ask prior to registering (avoids extra transaction fees should your player not be eligible). Email the Minor Major Convener for confirmation that your player is eligible.

Summer teams will also participate in the Summer Interlock Baseball League with other Teams in the Ottawa Area. The summer league has 2 games per week, home and away tournaments and some weekends will be required.

DIVISION SPECIFIC INFORMATION
At the beginning of each season, MLL will choose which of the divisions we will compete at for all age levels. This is typically decided over the course of the winter committee meetings.

The structure in these divisions has changed.

For the 2018 season both minor and major will have the following format:
• “All Star” team that will participate in the District Little Leagueplay downs and summer All Star level interlock schedule. This division used to be referred to as the Canadian Division in summer interlock. Instead they will now be referred to as the “All Star” division. MLL will not be entering teams into this division for Minor or Major
• “Canadian Division” A minimum of one team that will compete in the Canadian division of summer interlock. This team will be comprised of the next strongest group of players(if numbers and skill allow there could be two teams placed in this division).
• “National Division” All other players will form teams in the National division of summer interlock.

HOLIDAY PLANS
We understand that summer time brings family holidays, and we realize players are likely to be away for some games, perhaps even a couple of weeks at a time. This should not stop you from registering your child. You will be asked to indicate known/expected vacation times during the process to help us plan team rosters with vacations in mind. We try to have an adequate number of players per team so that holiday absences are not problematic.

All Star level players must be available for tournament playdowns, districts, and provincial dates and the MLL expects players on these teams to plan their holidays around these times. Unavoidable absences must be disclosed and discussed with the team manager and league representatives.

Equipment/gear required:
• Baseball glove is required.
• Baseball cleats (NO METAL CLEATS ARE ALLOWED except Senior level).
• Athletic support (“cup”) for all players.
• Grey pants
• MLL will provide a few bats to each team. If players have their own, they are encouraged to bring them (must be approved for the 2018 season and have the appropriate stickers – ask before you purchase or use one of the non-team provided bats).
• MLL will provide a few batting helmets to each team. Again, if players have their own, they are encouraged to bring them. (Please inspect that these helmets are in good condition and SAFE.)
• MLL will provide catching equipment for each team.
• MLL will loan a jersey to each player, in exchange for a deposit - the deposit will be returned when the loaned jersey is given back to the MLL (in the same condition it was loaned).

Should you have ANY questions regarding the MLL Summer Competitive Baseball program, do not hesitate to reach out to the Convener and ask.
